Davis Cup Brisbane 2018: Australia’s Alex de Minaur ready the intensity of the Davis Cup

TEENAGER Alex de Minaur is ready for a best-of-five set initiation in this week’s Davis Cup, his fellow singles contender John Millman says.

De Minaur, 18, turned heads with his skill and determination in making the semi-final of the Brisbane International and final of the Sydney international.

But his Australian Open experience was a four-set loss to eventual quarter-finalist Tomas Berdych in which de Minaur was able to win one game only in the last two sets of their first round match.

Millman, ranked No.108, Jordan Thompson (102) and de Minaur (139) are the singles alternative in Australia’s five-man team for Friday’s opening-day clash at Pat Rafter Arena, in which the second Australian player would take on Germany’s world No.5 Alex Zverev.
